Senator Lindsey Graham claims he has been traumatised after witnessing what he describes as a series of “witch hunts” by Democrats against U.S. President Donald Trump

U.S. President Donald Trump recently announced that he is suing the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) for failing to prevent a federal contractor from unlawfully disclosing his tax returns to The New York Times in 2020. The leaked records revealed, among other details, that Trump paid only $750 in federal income taxes that year.

The contractor was subsequently sentenced to five years in prison. Trump is now suing the government, claiming that the disclosure damaged his reputation and seeking $10 billion in damages.

Reacting to the development, senior U.S. Senator from South Carolina Lindsey Graham issued a statement asserting that the damages sought by Trump “aren’t nearly enough” and that the country owes it to itself to do more to remedy “the worst persecution of a beloved president that the nation has ever experienced.”

“In fact, no amount of damages can fix the reality that Trump was mercilessly attacked and ridiculed as a ‘tax dodger’ and a ‘cheat’ on the campaign trail, in violation of his God-given right to conceal this information. Can you imagine what course the U.S. and the rest of the world might have taken if even a few people in the MAGA base had failed to grasp Trump’s unassailable logic that ‘only suckers fail to avoid paying taxes’? The thought makes me shudder—it keeps me up at night. So much so that I have decided to join Trump in the suit against the IRS for the trauma this incident inflicted on me.”

“To achieve some semblance of justice in this case, and to discourage the ongoing witch hunts against Trump, I will soon introduce the ‘Oedipus+ Bill,’ which will require all those who viewed the unlawfully leaked tax returns to blind themselves. Other provisions of the bill will seek to compensate Trump and his loyal supporters for the many witch hunts to which they were subjected under the Biden administration,” the senator declared in the statement.
