Multiple news outlets report that U.S. President Donald Trump has set a one-time joining fee of “US$1 billion in small, unmarked bills” for a permanent seat on his newly conceived “Board of Peace.” The precise functions of the organisation remain unclear, but critics have already raised concerns that the Trump administration may use the body to undermine the United Nations.

Addressing the world press on the subject during his speech at the World Economic Forum in Davos on Wednesday, 21 January 2026, Mr Trump explained:

“The organisation will be in the business of administering peace around the world. Despite its great potential, the United Nations has become largely irrelevant, especially since my administration began undermining its authority and reining in its influence. Therefore, the world needs an international organisation with real impact to address the urgent challenges of our time.”

“By now, everyone understands that personal benefit is a powerful motivator underlying all of my actions. By providing $1 billion in cash for me to use as I please, the great nations of the world will demonstrate their commitment to bearing the costs required to keep the organisation relevant by ensuring that I am properly incentivised.”
