Responding to the U.K. Government’s proposed ban on X, the U.S. Department of State has announced that it is prepared to “go nuclear on the U.K.” if the measure is implemented.

A spokesperson for the Department further stated:

“Our position has little to do with the nearly $300 million Mr Musk spent to help re-elect President Trump. If the U.K. were to proceed with the ban on X, multiple other European countries—as well as wannabe European countries such as Canada and Australia—are likely to follow suit. Not only would this immediately reduce President Trump’s follower count on X by the millions, but the inevitable collapse of X that would follow soon after would forever deprive President Trump and his allies of the artificially amplified visibility for their content that Musk currently guarantees on the platform.”

“In a mid-term election year, in which the GOP faces widespread voter resentment over affordability and over the brutalisation of citizens by federal law enforcement officers, the situation spells a doomsday scenario—and we are willing to risk Armageddon itself to avoid it.”
